I Break for Fun

To stay mentally sharp and productive, you have to sometimes take a break and have some fun.

Our lives are busy. We have job obligations, people obligations, and other basic life obligations. Who has time for fun?

I have met too many people who think that way. Taking time out to have some fun is just as important as any other thing that you have to do. What’s the point in all of the other things if you can’t take a little time out to enjoy the rewards?

I get it. It’s easy to get buried under everything else you have to do. I get up at 4AM Monday through Friday to get my son to work by 5, then have to go back into town in the afternoon to pick him up. I’m responsible for keeping the house clean, the cats (3 of them) taken care of, and the bills paid. Just like everyone else. I get a little exercise in, usually a walk in town after I drop my son off.

Then I have my online empire to run. Ok, maybe “empire” is a bit much, but it takes time to generate content and keep all of that running. That’s my job most of seven days a week.

It’s easy for life and all that it entails to weigh you down and wear you out, if you let it. The thing is, that isn’t what we’re here for. Life isn’t supposed to be endless toil.

You Need a Break!

I have read many books and listened to a lot of teachers, especially about the Law of Attraction. The underlying, root message is that we are here to create and be happy.

There was one program that I enjoyed a long time ago. I think it was Wealth Beyond Reason by Bob Doyle, one of the teachers in the movie, The Secret. Or maybe it was a book that he wrote. Anyway, he said you should take what you want to manifest in your life and ask yourself why you want it. When you have that answer, ask why you want that. Then keep drilling down until you reach the most basic reason for whatever you want.

For example. Let’s say that I want to manifest a steady income of $100,000 per year. Why do I want that? Because it will cover my bills and leave me enough extra for a small family vacation. Ok, the family vacation is what I really want, why? Well, I want to have more time with my family. Again, why? Because I enjoy spending time with them. It’s fun. We’re really close now. We’ve reached “fun”. Why do I want to have fun?

When I have fun I am happy. That’s it! Happiness is going to be at the root of just about everything you want to create. The other likely outcome is some form of security or safety. We all want to feel safe. “Safe” is for survival and “happy” is for thriving. Maybe I can circle back and address safety another time, but I’m after thriving in the form of “happy” and “fun” today.

The thing is, for fun and happiness, you can skip all the way to the end of your manifestation and have what you really want right now, or at least sometime today. Keep going with the things you want to create. Just don’t wait until your done to be happy. Your happiness will likely bring the things you want sooner.

What Do You Do For Fun?

I don’t have an income goal like in my example, but time with family definitely does play a big part. So fun for me does usually include them.

Lately, when everyone is home in the evenings, we have all played “Overcooked!” together on our Nintendo Switch. It’s a cooperative game for up to 4 players and I just learned that you can also play this game on Netflix. You need controllers thought, so we’ll stick to the Switch.

We also work on jigsaw puzzles every now and then. We prefer puzzles where we call each choose a few sections to work on individually then put them all together. “Games We Played” or “Cereal Boxes” by White Mountain Puzzles are good examples of what I mean, and other companies make similar kinds of puzzles.

If we aren’t up to doing anything else, we sit and watch TV together, usually something we’ve already watched before. We only stream TV, so we have access to mostly older shows. Right now we’re watching “Bones” on Hulu.

If it’s just me and my son, we might play a game together on our computers. We’ll play a game of heavily modded Minecraft from time to time, but right now we are playing Space Engineers. We’ve built a base on an Earth-like planet and are slowly gathering up resources to make our first foray into space. Very exciting! I hope we don’t run into any pirates.

On my own, I read, learn Spanish, build with Legos (usually in LDCad on my computer because virtual bricks take up a lot less physical space), sometimes play a solo game of Minecraft or Space Engineers, look further into my family’s ancestry, or just spend some quality time outside with my cat, Sprocket. That’s him in the photo above.

In Summary

You have to take some time out for fun. When you do, you will find yourself refreshed and more focused when you return to whatever work you need to do. If you want to talk more about this, check out my welcome post on this site and join me on Facebook.

So, what do you like to do for fun?
