A lot of people talk about goals, but what makes a good goal?
A goal should scare you a little and excite you a lot.
– Joe Vitale
About Joe Vitale
Dr. Joe Vitale is a personal development author (I have several of his books and programs) and speaker. I first saw him in the movie, The Secret back in 2006 and I’ve been following him ever since.
You can find all of Joe Vitale’s books on Amazon (affiliate link).
Joe also writes books about selling. Marketing and hypnosis are two of his passions and he combines them in a couple of his books. I have a short review about Buying Trances, one of those books, in a recent posts. It’s on my “read this again” pile.
What Makes a Good Goal?
Let’s get back to the quote.
Dr. Joe gives you all the information you need.
A good goal will stretch you.
You hear all the gurus talk about how you need to get outside of your comfort zone. That’s one thing that a good goal will do. If it doesn’t scare you a little then it won’t help you grow.
On the other hand, you don’t want your goal to be so big that it scares you back into your comfort zone either. It just needs to stretch you a little bit.
It Has to Be EXCITING!
The second part of the quote says that your goal should excite you a lot. Your excitement is what keeps you going day after day until you complete your goal.
It gets you out of bed in the morning and maybe keeps you up a little late at night too.
The excitement is what makes you a little more willing to step out of your comfort zone and face that fear. If it isn’t exciting enough then you may just slip back into safety. Then you’re done.
