Keeping A Gratitude Journal

Gratitude is the open doorI’ve been writing recently about the things that I am doing to get back into the space of consciously manifesting my experiences. One of those things is writing in my gratitude journal every night before falling asleep.
There are many reasons why writing in a gratitude journal, especially just before falling asleep, makes good sense.
Gratitude, whether written, spoken, or just thought, puts you into a positive vibration. It is impossible to be in a bad mood while feeling gratitude. Everything I have read, studied and experienced says that you attract your dominant vibration, so the more you feel grateful, the more things and experiences you will attract to be grateful for. If you feel your mood slipping during the day then take a moment and think of a couple of things to be grateful for.

You can always find something to be grateful for. If you had a great day then you probably have a long list of things to be grateful for. On a bad day it might be harder to come up with something. In that case you can always fall back on the basic things to be grateful for – a roof over your head, a hot meal, or even just the pen and paper to write down that you are grateful for the pen and paper. There’s always something.
As I already said, I keep a gratitude journal. I write down a handful of things that I am grateful for every day. Writing takes more energy and engages more of the senses than just thinking about something, so when I write down what I’m grateful for, I put more energy into my gratitude and the feeling is strong. I also engage more of my senses. I’m not only thinking about what I’m grateful for, I’m also reading it and feeling the pen and paper. That’s even more energy invested in gratitude.
When I write down what I’m grateful for I also include the things that haven’t completely manifested yet. Whether it’s a new house, a new car or a vacation, you can feel grateful for it having come into your consciousness even though it hasn’t physically appeared in your experience yet. Be grateful for whatever level it has appeared at and write it down.
Finally, why do all of this right before falling asleep? Because the subconscious mind continues to process the thoughts and feelings that you fall asleep with throughout the night. So if you feel happy and grateful when you fall asleep, that is the energy that your subconscious mind is going to work with for the next several hours. It’s the opposite of watching a scary movie right before bed and it works the same way.
So, set a good notebook or journal and a nice pen next to your bed so that you can start your gratitude journal tonight.

BTW, my gratitude journal practice is based on one of the exercises in Rhonda Byrne’s book, The Magic.
